Let’s start with the Grand Daddy of all stress and anxiety reduction techniques–your Breath.

We all know to breathe when we’re tense, but here is a specific way to do it that is fast, easy, and powerful.

“Breathing in a Box”

  1. Breathe in for a certain count–say 5.
  2. Hold your breath in for the count of 5.
  3. Exhale for the count of 5.
  4. Hold for the count of 5.

Do this 5 times and you will feel like a new person.

Do it 10 times and miracles happen.

Let’s do it right now.

How do you feel now?

Any questions?

Workouts for the Brain

Create New Endings and Responses in Your Mind

You can use the power of your imagination to create Makeovers and Dress Rehearsals

Think about something that didn’t go well and give it a different ending, or a complete makeover from start to finish.

You can also do it proactively, like a dress rehearsal.

Think about something stressful that you are going to do, and imagine it going well.

This is very, very powerful. Literally, new neural pathways are formed.

Visualizing

Most people have no trouble visualizing.

Think of an apple.
Or your front door.
Or your car.

You probably get the picture.

If you didn’t though, it’s not a problem. Some people get sounds, smells, or feelings. It’s all good.

The important thing is…
The brain doesn’t differentiate between what we imagine, and reality.

Amazing, but true.

So CHOOSE what you put into your mind. Think of things that make you feel happy.

It’s like rehearsing for your life.

If you want to feel calmer and more in control, imagine feeling that way in different challenging circumstances, or with challenging people.

Right before you go to sleep is the best time to do this.

Let’s do that it right now.

Think of a stressful situation. Then close your eyes, take a deep breath, and see yourself being calm and in control. Notice your surroundings and fill in as many details as you can-what you’re wearing, seeing, feeling, hearing.

Notice how good it feels to react the way you want and to be in control of your emotions.

You can also use your imagination to defuse a tense relationship or negative feelings about a person.

Think about that person–then–imagine them with an elephant nose, or Dumbo ears–or wearing diapers.

Close your eyes and do that.

How do you feel now?

DAYDREAMING

Photos of beautiful places transport me and make me feel like I’m almost there. My imagination takes flight, and I conjure up what it would be like to have a glass of wine, looking down at the boats below–or
being in one of those boats.

I think about the people I’d meet, the food, the music, the little stores, the historical sites.

It only take a few minutes, but it’s like a little vacation, and it inspires me to keep a sense of adventure in my life, for that’s what I think keeps us youthful, full of energy, loving life-and de-stressed.

Invisible Shields

Some situations, especially if they are new or unusual, can feel dangerous to us. So protection can be helpful, even if it is just in your mind.

Close your eyes and imagine you have a shield, and that whatever is causing your stress can’t penetrate it. Some people imagine a shield, like the kind used in ancient wars, or a plexiglass barrier. Some imagine an invisible cloak that protects them from any harm.

How was that?

Not every technique is for everyone. If this one didn’t suit you, no problem–here are others!

Grounding Cord Technique

This is another simple but powerful technique.

Eyes closed, Imagine that there is a cord attached to the base of your spine, travelling all the way to the center of the earth. Allow it to expand to a size that is comfortable for you.

Now release any tension, stress or anxiety you may be feeling. Dump those irritating people. Dump the paperwork on your desk. Dump any negative emotions.

Now sigh deeply, letting out a sound of relief as the air leaves your lungs.
Don’t think about inhaling. Just let the air come in naturally. And again, sigh deeply.

With each sigh you are releasing stress, negativity and tension. Continue to sigh until you feel more relaxed.

Then remember where you are in this room. Wiggle your fingers your toes & open your eyes.

The most powerful way I know to relieve stress is to spend 15 to 20 minutes each day in a trance state, either with another hypnotist, listening to an audio, or doing self hypnosis. It’s similar to meditation, but usually more goal oriented. It’s not only normal, you have been in the same state every night, just before you fall deeply asleep. There are many benefits to to being in a hypnotic state. For instance, 15 minutes of hypnosis equals an hour of deep restful sleep. People always feel rested and refreshed afterwards.

It’s completely safe. No one in the history of time has ever not come back from hypnosis, and no one can be made to do anything they don’t want to do. You are always in complete control.

And now–it’s time for hypnosis!

But first-are there any questions?

Whether you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, an addiction, self-limiting beliefs, or you just want to sleep better…
…hypnotherapy and EFT (“Tapping”) can help you make those changes so you can create the life you want.
