Overview | Damsel Peak Southern Approach Route
I made some initial observations and reached the base of the summit approach route a couple years ago. I’ll return some future Spring or Fall soon to complete and document this summit approach.
Directions to the Start Point | Damsel Peak Southern Approach Route
From Hwy 215 in the Summerlin area, take the Charleston Blvd exit, turn upward (West) on Charleston Blvd toward the mountains. Charleston Blvd becomes Blue Diamond Rd. (Hwy 159) as you leave the city. Take the Calico Basin exit off Hwy 159 (right turn) onto Calico Basin Road. Park at Gene’s Trailhead near the beginning of Calico Basin Road.

Narrative Guide | Damsel Peak Southern Approach
I have not yet completed this adventure. The video gets you from the Calico Basin, across the Brownstone Basin and then to the base of the Damsel Peak Southern Approach Route.
Very Steep Loose Rock Limestone Slope!
All I can say at this point is that if you love steep steep loose rock limestone slopes, knock yourself out! This route is the shortest route to the Damsel Peak SE Pinnacle and Summit. It looks steep from below, and even steeper from above! I looked down that slope from its summit during the Damsel Peak End to End adventure. From the upper perspective the slope looked like steeping off the edge of the flat earth!
Adventure Preparation
Some good preparation for this steep of a loose rock slope would be the North Sister summit approach slope and the Mummy Mountain NE approach slope.
Adventure Variations
You could make a great loop by continuing on from the Damsel Peak Southeast summit to the Damsel Peak Northwest summit, then descend either to Little Red Rock to the East (Damsel Peak End-to-End adventure) or Brownstone Basin to the West (Damsel Peak Northern Approach adventure). You could also descend the Southeast Slope (Damsel Peak End-to-End adventure approach). Or, you could turn around and plunge down the steep Southern Slope retracing your ascent path. That descent might not be as daunting after having ascended the that steep slope.
