Mining operations began in 1855 making this Nevada’s first lode mine. An aerial tram was constructed in 1913 by the Empire Zinc Company. The mine produced lead, silver, zinc, gold and additional minerals. This site, especially the mine tailings, is a mineral hunter’s paradise. We’ll take a first hand look at the mine, tram and baby gauge railway. We might also locate a cool arch in the area!ย ย 

Route Starting Point Directions | Potosi Mine and Tram | Potosi Mountain, Nevada

Take Nevada Road 160 (extension of Blue Diamond Road in Las Vegas) up to the top of the pass before it begins descending to Pahrump. Near the summit of the pass take a left onto Road 582 Mt. Potosi Canyon Road that should be signed for a Scout camp and Mt. Potosi Observatory.
