Oak Peak is a challenging summit adventure at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon. The peak, towering over the edge of Red Rock Canyon offers sweeping views of the canyon. In particular, this is a great vantage point to see Blue Diamond Hill below to the East. However, the Las Vegas Valley and beyond are all in spectacular view from the summit. Cactus Flower Tower and Mt. Wilson are to the South of Oak Peak. Rainbow Mountain is to the North across Oak Creek Canyon. The Rainbow Mountains Upper Crest Ridgeline is above to the West.
There are some class 3 and rope assisted class 4 stretches during the ascent.
Directions to the Start Point | Oak Peak | Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, Nevada
From I-215 take the Charleston Blvd exit (at Red Rock Casino) and head upward through Summerlin toward Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Continue upward on Charleston Blvd. as it becomes Hwy 159 passing through Red Rock Canyon. Along the way you’ll pass the entrance to Calico Basin, the entrance and exit to the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive. Now you’re rounding the high point on Hwy 159 as it turns to the left and begins to skirt the base of the colorful Rainbow Mountains. Watch for a trailhead sign and parking area indicating The Middle Oak Creek Trail.

The Oak Peak adventure begins at the Middle Oak Creek Trailhead on Hwy 159. From there take the Middle Oak Creek Trail to the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon. The Jurassic sandstone summit approach slope rises sharply on the left (South) side of the canyon opening with a dramatic ascent to Oak Peak above.
