Overview | Mummy’s Forehead Summit | Mt Charleston Wilderness, Nevada
Adventure to occur soon during an upcoming Summer day!
Features of Mummy’s Head
Mummy’s Head includes three individual summits to the North of the main summit area:
To see these in perspective where they actually look like facial features you need to be to the East (from Northern Las Vegas to the Sheep Range area) or to the West (from Charleston Peak summit or below toward Griffith Peak). When you’re actually in the midst of the Mummy’s Head features they blend in with their surroundings and appear to be unassociated limestone peaks.
Mummy’s Forehead and Chin are two heights on a connected ridgeline. Mummy’s Nose lies to the East as a separate stand-alone summit with an incredible 360-degree view.
Unique Approach from Deer Creek Road
I’ve created a unique approach to the three summits from the Deer Creek Catch Pen Trailhead on Deer Creek Road. There is another more traditional approach to the three summits beginning on Lee Canyon Road.
Adventure Route Summary
This adventure begins at the Deer Creek Catch Pen Trailhead, ascends the East ridge of 7-mile canyon (above the trailhead), skirts the base of Mummy’s Nose cliffs, ascends the Deer Creek North Fork gully and finally summits Mummy’s Forehead at the upper end of the gully and to the right (see the map).
Best Time of Year for This Adventure
Mid-to-late Summer is best due to long days, absence of snow and ice and cool, refreshing temperatures compared to the Las Vegas Valley below.
