The Deer Creek Road camping areas put you in closest proximity to the massive Mummy Mountain with a summit area larger than a football field! The surrounding limestone cliffs and Bristlecone Pine forests are their own entire wilderness area offering endless hiking and camping opportunities. For example, you could hike up 7-Mile Canyon to the Summit of Mummy’s Nose, or to Mummy’s Forehead and Mummy’s Chin. There’s the beautiful Mummy Springs area, brilliant in the Fall with neon yellow Quaking Aspen trees. You can hike further above Mummy Springs to Mummy’s Knees and Mummy’s Toe…a viewpoint that feels like you’re standing on the bow of a ship, looking over the Las Vegas Valley! There’s also the wooded Fletcher Peak where you might see deer grazing in the Bristlecone Pine forest, and the ancient Raintree...a majestic 3,000-year-old Bristlecone Pine predating Classical Greek times! Some of these routes require pathless wilderness navigational skills, but you may be in the area long enough to begin to develop those skills.
